The President is the boss of the JCR! She's responsible for chairing weekly meetings and overseeing the work of the JCR. She represents the student body at committees within College and at CUSU Council - the students' union at University level. The President also aims to engage YOU in the work that the JCR does, so you're able to make an active input. However, she is not telepathic! It always helps if you get in touch about issues that you feel are important.

The Vice-President is the President's right-hand woman. Her duties usually involve the things that aren't covered by any of the more specific posts, or cover more than one post - e.g. arranging freshers' week, sitting on various committees, etc. She also co-ordinates the group bookings for formal hall. She represents the college at CUSU Council and maintains links between the college JCR and CUSU.

The secretary takes minutes of JCR meetings and Open meetings and organises elections. All motions for meetings and nominations for elections to the secretary by midnight two days before the announced date of meeting/hustings.

The treasurer looks after the JCR's money! She keeps accounts for the JCR, controls budgets and pays out cheques on the JCR's behalf when necessary. People/societies requesting JCR money must first clear it at an open meeting before the treasurer can pay them.

It's the Academic Affairs Officer's job to look after your academic interests - problems with supervisors, subject reps, parts of freshers' week, etc.
The Welfare Officer's jobs include safety issues (eg. personal safety, cycle safety), counselling, and helping to arrange the mothers and daughters scheme.

The Arts Officer coordinates the hiring of New Hall art to students and arranges New Hall art competitions. And if New Hall acquires new art, the Arts Officer is likely to know about it! She also sits on the Film Committee, which arranges New Hall's Film Festivals.

The Communications Officer produces the college newsletter. She also maintains the JCR noticeboard, and pigeonholes people regarding issues of importance.

The Computing Officer sits on college's Computer Committee, liaises with the Computer Manager and Student Computer Officers, and helps run introductory email courses in Freshers' Week. She also designs and maintains the JCR website.

The Ents Presidents maintain New Hall's place on the map of popular Cambridge ents venues by organising three events per year - one in Freshers' Week, one in Lent Term and one in May Week. They do this with the help of the Ents Committee.

The Disabilities Rep represents disabled MECSU students and address their needs and concerns. She also maintains the Disabilities notice board and assists the Chairs of the Welfare Committee with the organisation of the Mother & Daughter Scheme, the Welfare Library and any other appropriate business. She also lise with Senior Members of College and with the CUSU Students with Disabilities Officer on all relevant issues.

The college has an LBGT Rep for two reasons - to provide confidential support and information to anyone who feels they need it, and to keep students at Murray Edwards updated about CUSU's LBGT campaign, which runs uni-wide social events from club nights to coffee breaks as well as a yearly awareness week on LBGT issues. Check out the LBGT notice board by the library for updates on what's on!

The Access Officer aims to dispel myths that exist about applications and life at Cambridge and encourage applications to the college from students from diverse backgrounds. She helps with CUSU's wide range of initiatives and events including the Shadowing Scheme, the Target Scheme and E-mentoring. Within Murray Edwards, she also is responsible for coordinating the 2-day student-run 'Offerholders' event and for making you all feel welcome at interviews!
