Women's Affairs

It is the job of the Women's Officer to keep members of the college aware
of the latest news and events in Cambridge relating to Women's issues. As a member of the Women's Union, she represents the college at fortnightly Council meetings and votes on your behalf on matters pertaining to the welfare of women both college- and university-wide. The Women's Officer sends out regular email bulletins and is responsible for organising awareness events or campaign fundraisers for female concerns, such as eating disorders or breast cancer. She is also a useful resource for information and support and you are encouraged to use her as such! Your Women's Officer can inform and advise you on important matters such as night time safety, sexual health, gender discrimination, or personal well-being, and is always able to fit in a one-on-one appointment should you require one, and can put you in touch with the relevant information or help you need. The Women's Officer is also a member of the Library Council as co-ordinator of the Feminist Literature section, and welcomes and suggestions for additions you may have!

The Women's Union can often be mistakenly overlooked as a redundant or outdated community under the assumption that women's oppression is a thing of the past.. In actual fact the Women's Union not only stands to protect and fight the corner of Cambridge women, but to celebrate and encourage them in every way possible. Becoming involved in the Women's Union does not have to mean meeting the often - unfortunately incorrect - negative connotations of being a rigid 'feminist', but recognising your capability as a woman and the opportunities you and others have a right to access, and doing something about it in a productive and exciting female community.
